Weekend Round Up

Cheers to an awesome long weekend! This has been the long weekend Bo and I needed. We were able to spend the weekend getting a TON done around the house, spend time with friends and family, spend hours in the kitchen, log multiple workouts, while still getting at least 8 hours of sleep each night! Yup, that’s a pretty great weekend if you ask me! IMG_5077

I still can’t believe we both had today off from work for Columbus Day. I know I have it off due to the fact that my office doesn’t get Good Friday off as a holiday. Oh well, a long weekend in the middle of October and marathon training is much appreciated!

I spent today down in New Jersey visiting my cousin Meredith and her husband Rich. They have an adorable baby girl, Sedona, who is almost 7 months old and gets cuter every time I see her.

I mean really does life get any cuter than this? I just want to squeeze her cheeks and hold her all day long. I’ll tell you one thing, I wish I was blessed with musical skills. Listening to Meredith sing to her daughter is the most relaxing thing, especially when it’s her own Sedona rendition of Cecilia by Simon & Garfunkel. Bless my future children who have to hear my singing voice. Or maybe it’s just a good time to start thinking about voice lessons?

Yesterday meanwhile was a relaxing day of sleeping in, baking, shopping at Eataly, cooking, and catching up with Theodora and Meg who joined us for a holiday weekend four course dinner along with wine and Five Year Engagement.

  • TRX Clinic with Reebok NYC and some local Fitfluential ambassadors including Christine, Jill, Kristine, Katelyn, and Alfonso! I’m going to do a more thorough post later in the week including more pictures, moves we learned and a video but it was great to hang out with these awesome fitness rockstars for a quick sweat between my long run and yoga!

  • Yoga for Runners Workshop with Kristin McGee and Equinox: I can’t say enough amazing things about this event! There were over 30 readers who came out for an hour yoga class at the 19th Street Equinox which stretched our legs in ways we never knew possible. She taught us a few new moves while also adjusting us throughout the session! I’m so excited that there will be another Yoga for Runners workshop offered on October 20th since there was such a great response to this first event! The sign up will be part of tomorrow’s post! The SVELTE protein drinks she supplied at the end of class were a perfect way to refuel after all the day’s activities! So delicious!

The Perfect Recipes for Your Mexican Dinner Party

The weekend has definitely improved since yesterday’s long run.

I spent yesterday cleaning the apartment, relaxing some on the couch, putting my muscles through a much needed deep tissue massage, finally taking allergy medicine, and hosting a dinner party for our friends with Bo and Meg!

Oh yes, in case I forgot to mention it on the blog, Bo’s sister Meg is living with us for the next month. While it took some adjusting during the first 24 hours to figure out where things go and such, I’m sure it will be a lot of fun! She was the chopping guru yesterday, helping in the kitchen, and this afternoon she was a yoga sidekick!

The dinner party was a huge success and while I failed royally at taking pictures, I want to share the items we chose for the party. It was a perfect mix of flavor without a lot of work. Though the chopping and prep work took quite a while, the rest of the process was easier than normal.

Mexican Dinner Party recipes

I pinned the recipes on my Pintrest board yesterday which made it really easy to reference them when we were grocery shopping and cooking.

It was such a fun night complete with some dancing and funfetti birthday cupcakes! I think the bottom picture was during their rap off of Welcome to Atlanta. So fun!

This morning we slept in and spent the morning organizing, enjoying delicious omelets made from last night’s leftover shrimp and peppers, and watching Friends season 4.

Around 2, the three of us decided to head out for an easy 3 mile run along the East River. It was definitely hot out and super sunny but it was just wonderful being out there enjoying the views, company, some good music, and running pain free. Yesterday’s massage definitely helped as my lower back and hamstring muscles were way too tight. He thinks that running primarily outside this year versus indoor last year could be one of the contributing factors. In addition, he recommended more yoga which seems to be a common theme I’ve heard from everyone and anyone these days.

Inspired by his suggestion, Meg and I enjoyed an evening vinyasa yoga class at the Meatpacking Equinox (17th and 10th) tonight with Kristin McGee who was substituting for the regular instructor. As normal, she was wonderful. The class was a perfect mix of inspiring, challenging, featured a wonderful playlist including Dave Matthews and Simon & Garfunkel. and the views of the Highline didn’t hurt. I wish she taught more classes at Equinox!! In case you’re not able to enjoy your own dose of Kristin, here is a great yoga for runner video she posted on her blog a few weeks ago.

Question: What is your favorite Mexican recipe?

Friday Face Time: Office Yoga

Happy Friday! I’m finishing up some work this morning before enjoying a vacation half day this afternoon. Theodora, Caitlin, and I are heading down to Washington, DC via the Bolt Bus this afternoon.

In place of my regular Friday Face Time, this week we have a special guest, yoga guru and sweetheart Kristin McGee.

I had the opportunity to interview her last month at an event and thought you all would appreciate her suggestions for easy yoga moves you can do in your office while at work.

Her face may look familiar as she has appeared in many yoga DVDs over the years including Fila’s recent YOGA TONE DVD and MTV yoga workouts from back in the day. If you’re in NYC, I highly recommend trying one of her yoga or Pilates classes. She is a ray of sunshine during any class and loves and believes in the power of adjustments.

Enjoy and have a great weekend! See you from our nation’s capital!
