Top Ten Picks from J.Crew 40% Off Sale

Happy Wednesday guys!

Even though the weather in New York City this week is below freezing and more like Winter than Spring, it is in fact Spring. As I spent a few hours cleaning out my closet and donating anything that didn’t fit or I didn’t wear, I realized that there were a few basics I needed to replace. Just as I started putting together my shopping list and perusing online, JCrew sent an email announcing their Spring sale. Like many retailers, their typical sale is 25% off so anytime a sale announces discounts of 40-50% off, I always take a few minutes to click to the site.

Lucky for you guys, I did the heavy lifting and spent an hour last night sifting through the sale. My rule of thumb when shopping a sale is to make sure that is something I’d buy whether it was on sale or not. If you’d pay full price for an item then there is a good chance you’ll wear it often versus buying something just because it’s on sale and pushing it to the back of the closet.

Here are my top ten items to add to your closet this Spring to update your wardrobe. Each of these items are currently 40-50% off which means that they will sell out quickly!

JCrew Spring Sale Items

  1. Tippi Sweater – $35.99 – Available in 30 different colors, this flattering sweater is a perfect way to add a pop of color to any outfit.
  2. Silk Cami $29.70 – In the Summer I wear this silk cami with a blazer, jeans and heels for work then add a fun necklace and remove the blazer for rooftop and rose filled evenings out with friends.
  3. Striped Sweater with Side Snaps $47.99 – A sucker for navy and white stripes, this sweater is perfect for cool Summer evenings at the beach or in the mountains.
  4. Downtown Field Jacket $82.80 –  A Barbour look alike, this waxed cotton, water-resistant jacket can’t be beat for the price. The side snaps allow you to adjust the fit and the multiple pockets allow you to easily stow your keys, phone and credit cards, leaving your hands free for iced coffee and shopping bags.
  5. Vintage Cotton V-Neck T-Shirt – $15.90 – Most weekends during the Spring and Summer months, I can be found pairing this shirt with joggers, shorts or jeans. The v-neck and cut is flattering and the necklines pairs perfectly with a fun necklace or lightweight scarf.
  6. Tortoise and Pave Bracelet – $38.99 – The Pave bracelet has been a favorite of mine for the past few years and this update is a fun, updated way to wear tortoise shell.
  7. Sleeveless Silk Dress  -$83.99 – When I cleaned out my closet I realized that I desperately needed a new little black dress. This gorgeous dress looks far more expensive than it is and the draped back makes it an elegant choice for office or evening.
  8. White Matchstick Jeans – $66.00 – Once Memorial Day arrives, I tend to swap my dark rinse matchstick jeans with the white version. This jean style is straight without being skin tight and the thicker material means that it flatters your curves without leaving you worried about “see through wardrobe malfunctions”.
  9. Pleated Faux-Leather Mini Skirt – $44.95 – I bought this statement skirt on a whim last summer and was able to wear it all year long! In the warmer months you can pair it with a tank and necklace or a long sleeve blouse with the sleeves rolled and a fun bracelet.
  10. Denim Shorts in Dark Von Wash – $29.95 –  I have these shorts in two different rinses but this one is my favorite. A Summer staple, these shorts run a little big so you may want to consider sizing down unless, like me, you’d rather your shorts run loose versus tight.

Friday Favorites – April 1st, 2016

cherry blossomsphoto

I can’t believe it’s April 1st already. Where did March go? How have we been back in New York for nine months already? It’s crazy how fast life is moving. April is one of those months I have mixed feelings about. The weather in NYC is either amazing, sunny Spring weather filled with pollen, flowers and sunshine or it’s rain. In addition, I accidentally overbooked myself this month. As in I’m traveling EVERY single weekend this month and even though the destinations and reasons are fun, it still leaves me a bit stressed. Sometimes a girl just needs her downtime, am I right?

As promised, in regular Friday fashion, here is this week’s version of Friday Favorites. So, as you count down the hours until the weekend begins, let’s dive into this week’s edition of Friday Favorites, including recipes, articles, posts and other things that caught my eye this week.

There’s a good reason I didn’t ask you guys to click Turn on Post Notifications this week on Instagram. Get in the know on all the Instagram changes before you push that little alert button.

Oatmeal has long been a breakfast standby in our house but it isn’t something I’ve thought about eating for dinner until I saw this delicious, savory oat recipe.  As soon as I shared with Bo he immediately responded with “Why don’t we have that for dinner one night next week?” Done and done!

Inspired by Carly, I immediately added this top to my shopping basket.  The loose fit, navy pom-pom detail and thick material made me fall in love immediately! Now, is it too early for me to slip into these jeans and these wedges for my client meetings today?  (Don’t forget, 25% off Spring styles at J.Crew and an extra 30% off sale styles!)

As if I needed any further inspiration to fully embrace the athleisure craze, Infatuation shared a list of 19 restaurants where you can eat in your gym clothes, comfortably, without getting that judgmental side eye from your table neighbor.

As if Canadian Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, needed to something else to impress us, this week he showed off his wicked strength with a peacock pose. Really, what will this guy do next?

Say what you want about self help books but over the past few weeks, Bo and I have read The Five Love Languages together. While part of it seems a bit like those Chicken Soup for the Soul books, that seemed to multiply on the bookstore shelves faster than bunnies back in the 90s, it’s been a very helpful read so far. Without getting into too much detail, we have different ways of showing love and it has been helpful to understand these differences. The book has multiple versions so you can even apply the material in a work or friendship situation.

Queen B has proven that she knows how to inspire women in American and that anything she touches, surely turns to gold. Therefore, I predict that her new active wear line, Ivy Park, will sell out on April 14th.  My wallet appreciates the fact that the line will be priced from $30-$200.

Available today, this year’s limited edition Brooks Nantucket Adrenaline GTS 16 is inspired by Nantucket. Featuring whales, vibrant plaid and anchors they are so adorable and I’ve already received compliments on them after just two wears! If you’re in Boston for the marathon you can snag a pair at the expo or online!

A good reminder, In case you forgot, you can’t exercise yourself to weight loss. It’s about balance and your time at the gym can’t balance out what you put in your mouth the other 23 hours of the day.

Looking for some running inspiration in your Instagram feed? This round-up includes, Michelle, one of my favorite runners as well as other recreational and pro runners who will leave you wanting to lace up your shoes.

Friday Favorites – February 5th, 2016

snowy brooklyn pic

Happy, happy Friday friends! I am smiling like a kid on Christmas, once again this morning, as we were surprised with an overnight dusting of snow. It’s so fun to share this not only with Bo, but also my parents! As you can imagine, they never see snow in Savannah, Georgia so it’s a fun treat. Today we’re heading into the city for a full day of exploring the Metropolitan Museum of Art, checking out the new dinosaur at the Natural History Museums as well as finally seeing The Lion King! Before the show we are going to share our favorite pre-theatre dinner spot with my parents – Casellula.  The cheese plates and small plates to share are terrific as is their wine selection!

As promised, in regular Friday fashion, here is this week’s version of Friday Favorites. So, as you count down the minutes until the weekend begins, let’s dive into this week’s edition of Friday Favorites, including recipes, articles, posts and other things that caught my eye this week.

  • I can’t start this week’s favorites off without recognizing the gorgeous snowy scene outside our window this morning. Waking up to find Brooklyn covered in a dusting of snow was such a welcome surprise. Too bad it’s supposed to reach 40 degrees today, which means the snow will only last a few hours.
  • We are finally hitting the slopes this month and I can’t wait to clip into my skis and enjoy some time outside skiing on both the east coast and out in Tahoe. In preparation for our trip, I’ve had my eye on two base layers from Sweaty Betty. Both the Clubhouse and the Flowline are vibrant in color and gorgeous for both the day on the slope as well as après ski! I love that they are both sweat wicking as well as slim fit which means that I can easily layer without feeling like the abominable snowman. Which one is your favorite? I think the Rio pop art top is my favorite due to the bold colors which remind me of my favorite statement necklace!
  • Did anyone else shed a tear while watching the Me Before You preview? My favorite book of 2014, this movie looks like it is going to do the book justice and quickly rank high on my list of romantic tear-jerkers along with Love Story and The Notebook.

  • Speaking of clothing, a few of my favorite winter items are now on sale at JCrew. The leather pixie pant is dressy enough for business meetings when paired with heels and comfortable enough for weekends. These lean and flattering jeans have been a weekly staple since I bought them in October. They have just enough stretch to make me want to wear them daily but not enough to end up looking saggy in the butt. Seriously, now that these are marked down 25% I would buy these in black and the classic rinse! Anytime I wear the Cocoon Coat or feature it on social media, people immediately ask me where I bought it. This coat’s funnel neck, large pockets and looser yet flattering style is perfect for winter when you want and need to wear multiple layers but still want to look feminine.
  • Last night we finally tried Hometown Barbecue and boy did it live up to the hype. Brooklyn is home to multiple award-winning barbecue restaurants but none have been as creative as Hometown. If you’re visiting or a local, you must add it to your list of restaurants as I woke up this morning dreaming of their Chinese Sticky Ribs and the Texas-Style Queso Mac + Cheese. Oh, my word.
  • Since my parents are in town, we thought it would be fun to have a few friends over for a casual Super Bowl party. When I say casual I mean less than 10 people, leggings and jeans as acceptable attire and lots of time watching the game and judging the much anticipated ads. But, what is a Super Bowl party without good food? We are keeping things simple by making it pot-luck style but we have our eye on this delicious brownie recipe, this upgraded brownie recipe, and these homemade pretzels.

detox salad

  • After all the weekend indulgence, I know I’ll need a few days of vegetables and whole food in my life. You guys know I don’t support juice cleanses as I believe that we can reset our bodies with healthy, natural foods versus restrictive liquid diets. This detox salad is filled with delicious ingredients and when paired with the homemade dressing, will not only be a healthy start to the week but also one I actually want to enjoy, unlike a disgusting wheatgrass shot.
  • I’ve professed my love of smoothies more than once, but lately I’ve been looking for some inspiration. While I’ve never read Whitney Port’s blog before, when I saw Diana share this link on Facebook, I immediately jumped over. I love that each of these recipes packs a flavor and nutrient punch without filling the smoothie with unnecessary sugar.
