Friday Favorites – July 29th, 2016

ice cream

Happy Friday!  I hope you guys are having a wonderful day and looking forward to a fun weekend. I am taking the afternoon off from work today and while I don’t have any specific plans, I’m looking forward to a relaxing afternoon whether that means reading, cooking or getting a much needed manicure. Thank you so much for the support, warm words and comments on yesterday’s post.  Anytime a topic weighs on my mind for more than a few days, it’s worth sharing with you guys.

Now, let’s dive into this week’s edition of Friday Favorites, including recipes, articles, posts and other things that caught my eye this week.

  • You guys know I love workouts that can be done anywhere. This workout took me just five minutes and was a great way to wake my body up this morning. It can easily be doubled, tripled or squeezed in on a busy day.
  • Amanda’s latest post answers a question I’ve pondered many times before a workout or run.
  • Speaking of pre-workout fuel, I’ve been sipping and enjoying Vega’s Clean Energy  before outdoor workouts this Summer. Do you sip on anything before runs or workouts?
  • My how tastes and trends in food have changed over the years – some like fajitas and sushi have stood the test of time but others were definitely a short-lived fad.
  • Over the years I’ve tried hundreds of different banana bread recipes but this one is still the favorite among my family and friends when we are looking for a flavorful, moist traditional banana bread. It is the perfect base for mix-ins ranging from chocolate chips to toasted pecans.
  • It’s no secret that peaches are this Georgia girl’s favorite fruit and during the Summer months I do my best to include them in every meal. I happen to have everything needed for this salad recipe and am already dreaming of serving it tonight along side our grilled snapper.
  • I did these post-run yoga poses on Tuesday and swear it’s the reason my body wasn’t sore following the hilly run.  Now, if only I could push myself to do them after every run I am sure my body would be very thankful.
  • I love the final sentence in this interesting and very relevant article – “But no matter how much you train in the heat, it will never be easy, athletes and researchers say. So perhaps the best strategy is to just accept discomfort and slowness.”

What are your plans for the weekend?

Friday Favorites – July 8th, 2016

Happy Friday!

This week was short but intense. I’ve been in a Summer cold haze most of the week but after lots of sleep I am finally starting to feel like myself again. Bo and I are heading to Garth Brooks tonight with friends and then tomorrow I’m heading out to Rockaway for a surf+yoga workshop with Tangerine Yoga. Follow along on Snapchat tomorrow for what is sure to be a hilarious sight as I have never surfed before!

Now, let’s dive into this week’s edition of Friday Favorites, including recipes, articles, posts and other things that caught my eye this week.

  • In preparation for our beach trip down in Avalon, New Jersey later this month, I finally ordered two new swimsuits from Athleta! I snagged the Grenada bikini top and bottom as well as the Aqualuxe top and bottom during their sale this week. These should be perfect for playing in the waves as well as relaxing with a good book!
  • After years of using only skim milk, I finally have embraced full fat dairy products. After enjoying a full fat or 2% iced latte I feel far more satiated than I do after a skim latte. This week’s Well+Good article explains the science behind this as well as the multiple benefits of enjoying that full fat yogurt, milk and cheese.
  • Four years ago I fell in love with Uplift Fitness for their welcoming and supportive atmosphere as well as their challenging classes. After a few months away I took their POWER class last night and remembered why I love this spot.  My favorite classes are Endurance and Power and my favorite instructors are Kat and Liz B! If you’re in Los Angeles or New York City, definitely check out this studio!
  • I always find myself gravitating towards red or corral nail polish and CND Lobster Roll is the perfect combination. A bright, orange red color it is a vibrant polish that pairs perfectly with any Summer outfit and is available in both CND’s shellac and weekly polish.
  • I saved $50 this week just by walking three blocks to my public library. Over the past few months I’ve found myself reading more than ever and quickly this healthy habit cost me more than $200 in iBooks and Kindle. Instead of spending more money, I went to the library and searched for ten of the books I had marked as “To Read” in GoodReads. Minutes later I exited with four books and a bill of $0! While I will still use my iPad to read while I’m flying or traveling for business, library books are perfect for the beach and reading at home.
  • July and August typically bring unbearable heat and humidity to New York City. This heat can make running even just a few miles miserable. Luckily Runners World rounds up 10 tips for making hot weather running more bearable, regardless your fitness level.
  • I can’t believe that Sarah Brown had a child just a few months ago and still competed in the Olympic trials this week! Even though she didn’t get her fairy tale ending, I can’t wait to follow her journey.
  • This easy-to-use pesto guide was very helpful last weekend when I made pesto from scratch for the first time. We made the classic version but I really want to try the arugula mint and sun-dried tomato.
  • Last but not least, as you guys know Bo and I both love our ClassPass membership. If you’ve been considering trying it out, they are offering $30 off if you sign up between now and July 29th! (If you use this code, I get $30 too!)

Have a great weekend!

Friday Favorites – July 1, 2016

social media

I can’t believe that today is July 1st! I feel like Summer is flying by way too quickly.  This weekend I am taking time to slow down and be with family in light of a pretty rough week; in fact, my in-laws decided to make a spur of the moment decision to hop up to NYC from Savannah for the long weekend.  Our only plans for the weekend are to enjoy time together and relax. In my mind that translates to lots of sleep, relaxing on the back patio with a good book, working in the yard, lots of grilled dinners and some outdoor workouts with Bo – swimming, running and biking.  What are your weekend plans?

Now, let’s dive into this week’s edition of Friday Favorites, including recipes, articles, posts and other things that caught my eye this week.

  • Social media has been the topic of a few people’s posts this week including this Instagram post and this blog post. While I am thankful for the friendships and opportunities social media has provided over the years, sometimes even the most active social media users and bloggers need to take a step back, breathe and ensure that we aren’t letting it negatively impact our lives and that everything is kept in perspective. Thanks to your emails and comments, it’s clear I’m not the only person who feels this way.
  • The second NYC byChloe location opened in Flatiron last week and I’m happy to share that the food is incredible and the lines are far faster and shorter than the original location. Add this spot to your list of places to eat in NYC if you haven’t been already. I’m in love with their salads! If you’ve eaten there before, what was your favorite?
  • Need a laugh? Read this, especially if your refrigerator is covered in birth announcements.
  • When I saw that my favorite t-shirt is marked down to less than $10, I couldn’t resist ordering it in three more colors as the slim fit and soft feel has me wearing it all weekend long and even pairing it with a flowy skirt for meetings.
  • These nine cocktail recipes make it easy to stay hydrated this Summer even during happy hour as they are all made with sparkling water! I think I’ll have to make the GreyMousse for happy hour tonight!
  • I am hoping that these 12 travel photography tips will help me capture breathtaking pictures when we’re in Canada next month.
  • I wonder if this means that we’re in for a whole new round of podcasts following Adnan Syed’s journey. I didn’t realize that the spinoff, “Undisclosed” actually unearthed crucial new evidence!
  • Our herbs are growing so quickly that I’ve started searching Pinterest for recipes that will use mint and basil since these two are growing faster than we’ve been using them. I am going to double this recipe for Monday’s Fourth of July festivities and change up the pasta choice so it feels more like a side dish than a main course.
  • This Summer Running Playlist introduced me to three new songs I immediately added to my Spotify workout playlist.
  • Over my five Summers in NYC, I thought I had done everything on most magazine and friends Summer Lists. This article, 92 Days of Summer in NYCmade me realize just how much I have left to experience including brunch at Claudette, Pier A Harbor House, Sabbia, Magnum pop-up, Met Breuer, Grand Banks, Wave Hill and mini golf at Hudson River Park!

Okay guys, with that I’m ready for the weekend! Hope you have wonderful weather wherever you are this weekend and enjoy time with friends and family.
