Fall Fashion Round-Up

Oh Fall, the season when I suddenly feel the need to pin every tall boot, cozy sweater and blazer I see in fashion posts and websites. But then the reality comes that I don’t need to spend exorbitant amounts of money on most of these trendy, cozy, non-investment fashion items.

Luckily one of my best friends works at LOFT, a store that has become a reliable store and website for seasonal items both classic and trendy. Liz is far more fashionable than me, so over the years she has done a great job sending me emails and texts with her recommended items. This year, instead of relying on random texts, I asked her to put together a list of favorites in advance of my day of shopping in Dallas. I love her style and ended up buying eight of these items. Hopefully these inspire your next shopping trip too!

Better yet, right now, LOFT is having a 40% off sale on their website!

Here’s the list she provided, along with her color commentary.

Coatigan This item needs no introduction. It’s so super comfy, you will see me wearing this over everything this fall.

Relaxed Dolman T This is the perfect basic. The fabric is magically soft, it’s a great length to wear with high waist skinny jeans, I’ve been tucking into skirts too.

Long sleeve split neck I absolutely LOVE this Vintage blush color as well as the length. One of my friends paired it with plum skinny work pants and it looked amazing.

Relaxed Turtleneck SweaterOkay, I know turtlenecks are on trend but I was NOT a fan until I found this guy. Perfect non-itchy material, and the cut is on point. I feel like it’s a solid work to weekend piece, I’m wearing the black one with a grey pencil skirt and dark rinse skinnies.

High waisted skinny jeansThese are my favorite jeans of all time. I usually go for their modern skinny, but the high-waisted version is SO comfortable and makes yo booty look nice.  🙂 This might be me transitioning into mom jeans. Only time will tell. I’ve also worn my pair like 4 times and only minimal baggy knees after sitting at my desk all day. Not bad at all compared to other jeans.

Tech skinniesI live in the black pair for work whether paired with blouses or sweaters. These are a total wardrobe staple.

Mock neck floppy dress: I have a feeling this might not be for all body types but it’s super cute on a ton of people I have seen wearing it. I am going to pick it up this week! Fabric is comfy considering it’s more of a work dress.

Drapery tweed joggers – obsessed. Live in them, white T and a black blazer with wedge sneakers or black patent pointed pumps. Also maybe with a black turtleneck?

So there you have it friends, my more fashionable friend’s picks for Fall!

What are you loving this Fall?

Working from Home: Why Comfort & Style Are Still Important

Thank you Hanes for sponsoring this post. Click Here to shop your own Hanes Off Duty Style!

As you all know, in my new role, I’m working from home 90% of the time. Transitioning to this new work environment has gone quite well, even though I’ve been working in less than ideal conditions between our temporary housing in Times Square which was loud and our new apartment in Brooklyn which until today, didn’t have a proper desk or table.

For many, the idea of working from home seems to be intimidating in a way I never imagined. As soon as they hear that I work from home their mind begins to race, their face becomes perplexed and I immediately get one of the below questions:

So do you wear yoga pants or pajamas all day?

How do you force yourself to be productive?

Aren’t you lonely?

Do you find yourself snacking all day since you have access to the kitchen?

They are right to be concerned. If I was wearing my workout clothes or pajamas all day, it would be hard to get in a productive mindset and bring the mentality I need to conduct conference calls, lead strategy work and take myself seriously. If I never interacted with other people during the day, I would definitely be lonely since I loved the camaraderie of an office environment for the past six years. At the same time, I do find myself taking advantage of the work from home situation to dress more comfortably.  Similar to the professional and personal style I’ve had for years, I’ve found that my work from home style is a mix of comfort and style.

I want to dress nice enough that I can do a video conference with a colleague or sporadically head to the coffee shop for the afternoon, but comfortable enough to focus and reduce our dry cleaning bill.

Luckily, the team at Hanes believe that life should be like this everyday. While they are known for soft, comfortable clothing they also believe that when styled properly, these comfortable classics can take women like me from the work day to date night.

Using a few of the pieces they sent me, I styled two different looks this week which I wore yesterday and today.

The first look, which a few of you saw on Facebook and Instagram earlier today, includes four different Hanes items and will be perfect for those upcoming transitional weeks in September and October when Summer is over but the winter freeze hasn’t arrived. When paired with some simple jewelry, canvas flats and an over-sized tote I was ready to catch up on work emails at Smith Canteen, my new corner coffee shop, before the movers arrived.

This look includes the oh so comfy but not see-through Hanes cotton legging, a cozy, pastel pink Hanes fleece crew sweatshirt, along with the Hanes ComortFlex fit get cozy seamless wirefree bra and Hanes ComfortFlex® Cotton Stretch Smoothing Underwear underneath. I want to order this soft sweatshirt in every color and style with a vibrant infinity scarf when Fall arrives!  It can easily tie around the waist, get tossed in a tote bag, or be worn on top of a tank to ensure you’re never cold but always cozy! Even though it’s the dog days of Summer, I still haven’t adjusted to American air conditioner and find that I’m cold everywhere, especially on subways and neighborhood coffee shops.

The second look is a bit more business, perfect for video conference calls or face to face meetings, but includes a pop of Summer color with the classic Hanes cotton leggings. Yesterday I paired the black capri-length Hanes cotton leggings with a pink and white check tunic,  Hanes ComortFlex fit get cozy seamless wirefree bra, tan flats, a messier than usual bun, and iced cold brew for a long day of conference calls and work.  Wearing a crisp, tailored blouse is an easy way to dress up this wardrobe staple.

If you work from home, what’s your style?

Friday Favorites – Under $100

There are just THREE days left to stock up on some of your favorite brands and stock your closet for the upcoming Fall season. Once the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale ends each of these items will immediately return to full price.  Since I know I’m not the only person on a budget these days, I thought it’d be helpful to feature a round-up of my favorite under $100 items that are still available.

Grab your cup of coffee and get shopping because many of these items are selling out quickly!  To make things easier, I broke my picks out over three categories: home, shoes and clothing.

Home

Nordstrom Anniversary Sale HomeI highly recommend snagging a pack of these candles for hostess gifts and then another pack for yourself.

This cozy throw is perfect for movie night and priced at $25 it won’t break the bank!

The perfect addition for any bar area, these Moscow Mule mugs are so fun!

Shoes

Nordstrom ShoesI fell in love with booties last year and since these are priced at just $80, I’m definitely adding these basic booties to my closet in taupe.

I’ve had these slippers for years and they are still in great condition! Now that I work from home, I may or may not wear them all day long!

I love adding a pop of color to an outfit with sassy heels. I just snagged these in red and can’t wait to wear them with jeans and a black tunic!

If you don’t want a bright color, these leopard heels are a great “neutral” heel option to add some fun to a classic black dress or jeans.

The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is a great time to finally buy a pair of Nike FlyKnits as they are $40 off and available in lots of fun colors!

Perfectly priced at less than $75, these flats are great for just about any day of the week.

Clothing

Nordstrom ClothingThe fun seams and detailing on this dress make it perfect for Fall especially when paired with the leopard heels!

I have this tunic in two colors and am definitely adding a bright color this year as it’s easily dressed up or down depending on how you style it.

This classic stripe long-sleeve t-shirt comes in lots of fun color combinations and is under $20, making it the perfect Fall staple.

My Victoria Secret bras have all seen better days and are over 4 years old. I am finally cleaning out my drawers and replacing them with this highly recommended bra.

This tunic is another fun option as the high-low design has a great drape to it and will work for weekday OR weekend fun.

At this price, this Faux fur vests is a fun way to spice up any Fall or Winter look.

With over 2,000 positive reviews, how can I not want to add these to my wardrobe?

Bright and fun, these crops will be a bright, fun addition to my workout wardrobe.

This loose and relaxed sweater screams Fall and would be perfectly paired with skinny jeans, tall boots and a pumpkin beer.

When the weather gets crisp, this North Face vest is the perfect layer for workouts and errands, especially in the winter white.

I have this North Face quarter zip in two colors and practically lived in it last Fall and Winter.

Last but not least, one can never have enough classic black leggings and these have seaming detail and are heavy enough to wear in public without any see-through disasters.

Which pick is your favorite? Did you shop the sale? If so, what’d you buy?
