Lashes Fit for Times Square

Happy Monday! While the New York City weather isn’t exactly smile inducing, I’m still riding a high from our great weekend!

If you’re catching up from the weekend, it was a busy weekend with some of my favorite blogger friends!

We Partied Down At Leslie’s Wedding

Enjoyed A Great Run Along Kelly Drive with Meghann

Travelled Back to the City of Brotherly Love

After a wonderful weekend, Monday is always difficult but having an early morning spin class makes waking up easier! This morning’s spin class was earlier than normal but went well. The instructor never sat his butt on the bike during the whole class but his music was perfectly on beat with the workout and he pushed us. How do you feel about instructors who don’t participate?

After a great spin class, I’m always ravenous! I enjoyed a bulked up bowl of oatmeal this morning complete with protein powder and bananas!

IMG_2209 (640x478) The protein powder helped this bowl last for over four and half hours!

My lunch plans took a turn for the best when I heard drums in our office. We were all confused but quickly remembered that today was Asian Heritage Day in our office.

I filled my plate with broccoli, sushi, and chicken. It was absolutely delicious and a nice change to the normal weekday salad.

IMG_2348 (640x478)After a late afternoon doctor’s appointment, I had two more fun stops before finding my way home for the evening.

My first stop was at JJ Eyelashes in midtown west. I’ve been playing with the idea of getting eyelash extensions for a few months, after seeing my friend Jessie’s lovely new lashes. After much debate, I finally made the leap today.

I was surprisingly pleased with my experience. The service at JJ Eyelashes was very professional, clean, and relaxing. The hour long treatment included a 15 minute leg massage and I even caught a quick cat nap during the treatment. In addition, my thin and short eyelashes went from zero to hero in less than an hour!

IMG_2349 (640x480) IMG_2350 (640x480) My mascara days are long gone! In just a few short hours, I’ve received two unsolicited compliments, one from Bo and one from our doorman. If you’re in the New York City area, I highly recommend them!

My new eyelashes and I headed over to Times Square next. My next stop was the Viacom headquarters for a University of Georgia Terry College of Business Alumni event. We loved seeing our famous G in the midst of Times Square!

One piece of Arnold toast, a sliced and salted tomato, two egg whites with cheese, and a piece of turkey bacon. Fast, easy, and simply delicious!

Question: How do you feel about instructors who don’t participate in the class? Can they still be good instructors?

Back in the City of Brotherly Love

Good morning Philadelphia! The sun is shining, there is blue sky as far as the eye can see, and not a cloud in the sky. I’d say Leslie is pretty luck with her wedding day weather; especially after the week of weather we’ve had in the Mid Atlantic and Northeast!

IMG_2262 (640x478)This weekend is a reunion weekend of sorts as we not only get to see Leslie and Charles say “I do” but we also get to spend time with Sabrina and her husband Trig, but also Meghann and Derek!

IMG_4497.JPG

It’s been more than three months since we hung out in Vermont together which is way too long in my opinion! Over the past year we’ve spent time together at Healthy Living Summit, New York City, Disney World, and Vermont!

We arrived in Philadelphia last night around 8:30pm after a stressful afternoon. Bo had to work later than planned, we both had to finish packing at home, and the cross town traffic combined with the difficulty of getting a cab had us on edge for a good two hours! We literally made it on the bus with one minute to spare.

We chose the Bolt Bus over Amtrak due to the price and comfort level. The bus is really inexpensive and based on when I bought our tickets, we only paid $7 per person this time to get from New York City (8th and 34th street) to 30th Street Station in Philadelphia!

IMG_2256 (640x478) Bo spent time watching movies on his iPad while I slept for most of the two hours and fifteen minute trip. We were worried we would be really late based on the traffic leaving New York but once we hit New Jersey it was smooth sailing.

As soon as we made the stop in Cherry Hill, I knew we were close. Did you know I lived in Philadelphia for 3 years? My aunt and uncle live near Cherry Hill so I know that without traffic, the drive into the city is about 30 minutes. As soon as I saw the skyline and bridge, I couldn’t contain my excitement!

By 8:45 we had joined the gang at Jack’s Firehouse. Jack’s is a neighborhood restaurant near Sabrina and Trig’s home which is known for upscale comfort food and good beers. It didn’t disappoint and I was excited to try it after seeing it on Leslie’s blog multiple times!

The boys quickly started deep conversations on their side of the table, clearly getting along better than we could have ever imagined! It was the first time Bo had the opportunity to meet Trig though they’ve each heard a lot about the other. In addition, Bo and Derek clearly enjoyed catching up.

While the boys laughed an caught up, I focused on spending time with Sabrina and the little bambino! I had so many questions and was curious to hear how she is feeling at 22 weeks!

IMG_6189.JPG

One thing is for sure, she is the most radiant pregnant woman I’ve seen in ages. Look at that smile and glow! You can barely tell she is pregnant from this picture but in real life she had an adorable baby bump!

I was starving when we finally arrived and happily dove into one of their warm biscuits with preserves as I enjoyed an unpictured summer ale.

IMG_2257 (640x478) The menu was filled with heavy comfort food with a definite Southern influence. Rather than go with barbecue or the ribs, I chose one of my standby favorites: salad and mussels!

IMG_2258 (640x478) IMG_2259 (640x478) The salad special was popular with our table due to the waiter’s delicious description! Grilled squash, eggplant, and zucchini mixed with endive and goat cheese atop light greens and drizzled with balsamic and olive oil. Holy yum! The salad was light and delicious though I should have asked for the dressing on the side.

IMG_2260 (640x478) IMG_2261 (640x478) The mussels exceeded my expectations and the sausage and garlic gave them a delicious, rich flavor even though I didn’t eat the sausage.

I left dinner satiated but not stuffed, exactly the way I like it.

The company was the best part though as the conversations and laughs continued non stop throughout dinner and beyond!

We returned to Sabrina’s house for some delicious salted chocolate chip cookies and a relaxing evening catching up while the boys headed out for one last beer.

imageThe perfect Friday night!

Now I’m ready for Meghann to wake up so I can give her a running tour of Boathouse Row and Kelly Drive before a busy afternoon!

Getting It Done

Today, instead of focusing on everything going on in my life, I focused on getting things done! The positive energy helped me finish the tasks faster and in a better mindset!

Today’s to do list was filled with evil chores that no one enjoys. My aunt is in town this week and she’s coming to our house Thursday night for drinks before dinner at Mas. Therefore, our kitchen, which was still a wreck from the weekend’s Derby Party, had to go from dirty to shining. The finished product only took 20 minutes of suds and elbow grease! I highly recommend listening to your iTunes library on random while cleaning. I had the chance to scrub to both Adele and Salt & Pepper.  IMG_2028 (640x478)

I proceeded to shine our Armetale after cleaning it so it will be ready and waiting for our next shindig. Shining Armetale and then cleaning our silver definitely delivered an arm workout.

My next item on the to do list was doing a survey of my summer dresses. I have 10 different dressed I hadn’t tried on since last summer, when most of them didn’t fit. Today, thanks to 5 weeks of personal training, improved eating habits, and smart choices, 8 of them fit! The craziest thing is that these dresses range from size 4-10.

Last but not least was dinner! This was far more delicious and fun than I expected. I forgot that we had delicious leftovers in our refrigerator, just screaming to be used in a cool, delicious salad. Like Meghann and many others, I crave huge salads all summer long along with fruit desserts! Tonight’s salad included leftover tomato & okra, barbecue, chopped red onions, chopped tomatoes, and iceberg lettuce. It came together in less than 5 minutes and was a crunchy bowl of goodness!

IMG_2029 (640x478) IMG_2030 (640x478) Last but not least, I need your help! I’ve chosen my dress for this weekend’s wedding in Atlanta but need help accessorizing! I want to give this cute black dress some spring fun for the afternoon wedding we have on Saturday. What type of earrings or bracelets should I wear? Should I go with strappy shoes or fun, bright heels? HELP!
