Running, Eating, and Smiling My Way Through the Week

Wow! I can’t believe it’s already Thursday! Where did this week go? Oh yeah, Monday was a mix of Miami and Fourth of July while I’ve spent the rest of the week immersed in my new job.

Even though the week has flown by thus far, it’s been a great week for two reasons: workouts and food!

Workouts

Due to our vacation schedule and Fourth of July plans, Monday was my rest day this week. I spent the day traveling back from our Miami vacation. Tuesday morning, bright and early, I was kicked back into reality with an hour training session. This session left me more sore than any other session to date. We spent time engaging multiple different muscle groups by using the TRX, VIPR, weights, and body weight.

Of all the exercises, the single leg sit down was the hardest and left me quivering!

I’ve also enjoyed two outdoor runs this week, one 3 mile long and the other 5 miles. The 3 mile run was a refreshing evening run which allowed me to release stress before walking through the door. I also enjoyed a new route during this run along the East River and the United Nations!

Yeah, I'm bringing sexy back for sure.

This morning’s five mile run wasn’t quite as refreshing but it was the perfect kick in the butt. For some reason, I’ve had a hard time finding motivation to do longer runs during the week. I can wrap my head around and get excited about a 5k or even a 4 miler but 5 and 6 mile runs are harder. However, Bo got me out of bed this morning for a five mile run through the city and along the Hudson. Even though we listened to music the entire time and I stopped to stretch out my sore legs a few times, we finished the run keeping a 10 minute pace and enjoyed some amazing views!

Bo running along the HudsonWashington Square Park was gorgeous in the morning sun!

My workouts for the rest of the week include another personal training session tomorrow, a long run with Theodora on Saturday followed by Well+Good’s Yoga for Runner’s class, and then finally a spin class or yoga on Sunday.

Food

Today's skirt doubles as a fun backdrop!

Yogurt+Berries+Oats= refreshing Summer breakfastThis is quickly becoming one of my favorite salads!

Can you see a trend? My breakfast and lunches have been super clean and healthy this week. I’m doing my best to keep my energy high in my new job that matches the amazing new view and sunny window I have by way of a new desk. Therefore, I’m starting every morning off with a huge bottle of lemon water, oats, and a multivitamin and fish oil supplement.

Overall, it’s been a great week and the perfect way to kick off July! If you’re looking for more great ways to kick off your July, check out some of the news on The Go Healthy NY sites. There are a lot of great programs taking place this month including free fruit days, free cancer screenings, and the launch of Great American Health Challenge!

A Homemade Thursday

Sometimes, in the midst of a crazy week, nothing feels as good as a comfortable but cute outfit, yoga, and homemade food.

I enjoyed a homemade breakfast for the first time in ages since I took today as a rest day.

IMG_2708 (640x478) IMG_2711 (640x478) I enjoyed fresh strawberries with a side of Trader Joe’s Whole Wheat toast and egg whites. I microwaved the egg whites then topped them with mild salsa.

The few extra minutes to get ready meant that I could also try a new outfit combination and have time to change four times!

IMG_2712 (478x640) Unfortunately, my husband couldn’t take the time to take a non-akward picture. Oh well, regardless I was able to switch this skirt up by pairing it with a different top, shoes, and belt.

My work day was a complete blur since I started the morning in meetings at Macy’s and then ended the day in meetings back at the office. While I was sitting in meetings, poor little Justin Bieber was getting beat up by a crazy masked man.

Justin Bieber's crazed middle-aged fan was taken into custody and issued a summons for disorderly conduct Thursday afternoon.

By the end of the day, I felt about the same way this Bieber fan felt after waiting outside Macy’s Herald Square for two days straight.

Luckily, I had this lovely site waiting for me at home.

After a 20 minutes  of shoulder opening yoga poses, I headed into the kitchen to whip up a homemade dinner. It’s been a long week for both of us and we agreed that even though takeout or delivery is easy, nothing tastes as delicious as homemade.

IMG_2713 (640x478) IMG_2715 (640x478) I was able to repeat Sunday’s beet and arugula salad with the leftovers in the fridge while Bo prepared lemon and garlic sautéed spinach and sautéed mushrooms. The main dish was Trader Joe’s chicken patties. These are seriously one of our favorite Trader Joe items. They are perfectly seasoned, our perfect cooked in a pan or grilled, and are healthy!

Now, it’s time to relax and let go with Hall Pass. Hopefully it’s good for a few laughs.

What is your favorite Trader Joe’s item?

A Sweet Surprise

Happy Tuesday!

I hope y’all have had a wonderful day! Work was a bit crazier than normal but also filled with a fun, sweet surprise to celebrate my five year anniversary. Our office used to celebrate events with Crumbs cupcakes but lately Pinkberry has replaced that tradition which is fine with me!

My team knows me well and I think my face lit up when I saw the box of mini Pinkberry cups. I enjoyed mine with chocolate crunchies and strawberries!

The rest of the day’s food wasn’t quite as interesting.

After a great 4.5 mile run and stretching session, my stomach was growling like ferocious bear. Maybe my body forgot how much energy a run takes since I hadn’t run in a week.  I added a 1/2 scoop of protein powder this morning and it worked wonderfully. I do however suggest adding some Splenda or sweetener as well. Without it the taste is a little, weird.

IMG_2480 (640x478) Every few days I try to switch up my romaine salads for something including a bit more nutritional value such as spinach. This morning’s spinach salad included mushrooms, beets, tomatoes, celery, cucumber, egg white, and spinach.

IMG_2499 (640x478)Unfortunately, my yoga dreams were ruined by my work schedule and Bo and I didn’t walk through the door until 8:45. We didn’t have enough ingredients leftover from last night’s salad to make fresh salads tonight. Therefore, we picked up salads from Toasties, our go to for fresh and delicious salads. It’s cheaper than Chop’t and has a better ingredient selection and friendlier staff.  IMG_2502 (640x478) I spent some time last night updating my Race Recap section. It was so fun to remember all the great races I’ve run over the past few years but I wish I had blog recaps of each and every one of them. At least, thanks to Athlinks, I have all my race information. If you haven’t discovered Athlinks yet I highly recommend paying the site a visit. You can register and it will track all of your race information for FREE!

In addition, I’ll be building my FAQ section over the next few days featuring answers to all your questions regarding my work-life balance, the story of me+Bo, and my favorite New York sites and restaurants. If you have any other questions, just leave me a comment.

Finally, last but not least,as you may or may not know, I am partnering with BeFitNYC to provide free fitness opportunities for New Yorkers in honor of the BeFitNYC launch. There are a few other bloggers working to provide free events like Missy and Dori who are hosting an awesome Intensati class! I’d love for you and your friends to come out to the event if you’re free. The details are below but please do comment or email me if you are going to attend! I love meeting readers and fellow bloggers!

If you’re in NYC Saturday and looking to break a sweat, join me, Leanne Shear , and the Rogue Female Fitness team for an awesome “30/30”  class! This great class is normally $25 per session! June 11’s class is a strength and sculpting class using 30 repetitions and 30-second intervals that borrows from Pilates with holds and pulses. It’s bookended at the beginning with some of our signature cardio and at the end with yoga-oriented stretching.
