Global Running Day 2016

Good morning and Happy Global Running Day!

Curious what Global Running Day is, besides of course a good excuse to go out for a run?

“Global Running Day is a day for people around the world to celebrate the joys of running. Participation is easy—just pledge to take part in some type of running activity on June 1, 2016. It can be a solo lap around the block, a long run with friends, or even a game of tag with your kids. The key is to share your passion for the sport and inspire others to get moving.” – GlobalRunningDay.org

In honor of the occasion, Brooks just published their fourth annual Brooks Global Run Happy Report. Below is a fun infographic they put together outlining the results!

This morning my friends at Brooks put together a fun and spirited 5k run to celebrate Global Running Day. Though it was a hot and humid morning, the course was a winner! They mapped a 3.1 mile out and back route that included the High Line as well as the West Side Highway, where we were provided some much needed breeze.

Even though this was a fun run the 5k included cheer stations, a finish line, medals, bibs and t-shirts! I wish every race was as fun as this mornings because there was nothing but high fives, smiles and conversation. It was a great opportunity to catch up with running friends and finally meet some other friendly faces whom I’ve followed on social media for ages.  While my running endurance has definitely suffered during this month-long break, my legs felt great today for the 5k and I ran pain-free and happy the entire time! Tonight’s JP Morgan Corporate Challenge in Central Park will be a bit more difficult on tired legs but it’ll be fun to run with friends in Central Park.

Don’t forget, many amazing brands are featuring great deals in honor of Global Running Day!

Last but not least, each year I take this opportunity to share my running story with you guys to remind everyone that I haven’t always been a runner. During my childhood, the only place I ran was from the couch to the pantry. But, for the past ten years, running has made me smile and brought me friends and amazing experiences!

Your turn – Did you run today in honor of Global Running Day? When did you first become a runner?

Memorial Day Weekend Fashion

IMG_0312

Happy Memorial Day friends!

We spent the past three nights in Manchester, Vermont with family enjoying the gorgeous weather and a relaxing weekend. The holiday weekend was the perfect time to wear a new blouse I ordered especially for the weekend of backyard barbecues and patriotism.

This off-the-shoulder top is so wonderfully soft and machine washable that I know I’ll wear it all Summer long paired with shorts, skirts and jeans.  One of the partnership items with JCrew this season, the Ratti print top is navy with colorful dots making it a vibrant match for the white jeans I wore this weekend.  I found the top easy to wear as the elastic neckline stayed in place most of the night and only needed adjusting once or twice. The length of the top was perfect for my short torso but I would recommend the tall version for anyone who has a longer torso.

The other highlight of this outfit were my new Birkenstock sandals which provided me with amazing support all weekend long.  For years my mom has advocated supportive shoes but until this Summer I’ve ignored her recommendations and spent the Summer in sandals that left my arches screaming and feet hurting by the end of the day. The fun rose gold color allows me to pair these with almost any outfit while still enjoying the support all day long. Before investing in a pair of Birkenstocks I suggest going to a local store and trying them on so you get the right size and fit for your foot. They are European sizes and have multiple widths depending on needs.

Friday Favorites – May 27th, 2016

dance dance

Happy Friday! Are you guys doing the long weekend dance yet?  I have just a few more hours of work before we head up to Vermont for the weekend. My family has a home in Manchester Center, Vermont which is the perfect place to visit when we need a weekend out of the city.  We are doing something new this weekend and spending a bit more time in town enjoying some new restaurants, workouts and shopping. While we’re not in town we’ll be hiking and breathing in the fresh, clean air and enjoying the warmer than normal weather.

I hope you guys enjoy a wonderful, long weekend. Please take a moment to remember the reason and history for this long weekend as it isn’t just about cookouts and welcoming Summer. So since there is very little time between now and the weekend, let’s dive into this week’s edition of Friday Favorites, including recipes, articles, posts and other things that caught my eye this week.

  • How can I not address this week’s opening picture. Wedding dancing is definitely one of my favorite things as there is nothing more fun than our group of friends, great music and a huge dance floor. This picture was taken two hours into the reception and what you can’t see is that I was dancing barefoot and sweating profusely. Can we have another dance party soon guys?
  • Thank you Time.com for this explanation of  why Memorial Day is a three-day weekend.
  • I finally caved and ordered my first off-the-shoulder blouse. Miraculously, both Bo and I find it flattering and fun. I’m going to wear it to dinner tonight with my new sandals, white jeans and simple gold earrings.
  • I loved this OPI nail polish so much that I bought it at Rite Aid following this week’s manicure. It’s a bright, cheery pop of pink that coordinates with almost any color or skin tone.
  • If I’m craving something other than an apple and almond butter for an afternoon snack, I’ll turn to this popcorn. The hint of olive oil and sea salt gives it a rich, delicious flavor while still only being 24 calories per cup! There is nothing artificial or crazy on the ingredient list just popcorn, sunflower oil, olive oil and sea salt!
  • Earlier this week I had the opportunity to hear two employees from LinkedIn talk about the perfect profile. This graphic easily helps anyone take a lackluster or non-existent profile and quickly transition it into a profile that will get attention and build your equity online. As they reminded us during the speech, a profile isn’t only important for job-seekers but also people who manage others as these days employees go directly to LinkedIn to learn more about future employers or team members.
  • While I take a pre-natal vitamin daily, I think it’s very important for people to understand more about vitamins. This quote articulated the importance of understanding the why and aligning it with your doctor.  There are only 13 vitamins, which are essential for health, compared to over 85,000 dietary supplements for sale in America.

Have a great weekend friends! I’ll check in from Vermont with some of our adventures but until then, I hope you enjoy some rest and relaxation.
