Nike+ Training Club HIT Workout

After sitting inside all day, enjoying an outdoor workout is a great way to de-stress and shake off the day. As the days grow shorter, it’s hard to know how much longer the evening will allow for outdoor workouts. Therefore, I’m doing my best to try at least oneoutdoor option on ClassPass leading up to the winter freeze.

After months of reading about and seeing pictures from Nike NTC workouts, I finally made my way to the Nike Flagship rooftop this Monday to meet Zoe and Sashea for their NTC HIT workout. The verdict? This outdoor workout was awesome and I can’t wait to return!

Each Monday, Niketown NYC hosts this 60-minute workout on the roof of their store.  The high intensity interval workout is led by two master trainers. These trainers make sure that each and every person on that rooftop leaves the workout dripping in sweat and energized.

The workout is not for the faint of heart. It included bursts of non-stop movements followed by short recovery breaks. Between the supportive instructors, awesome DJ, photographer capturing our moves and city views I couldn’t help but be motivated through each of the workouts.

NTC Event 1
After a short warm-up, the trainers took us through a series of exercises using a small torture device known as the resistance band. This resistance band made every exercise ten times harder. You name it, we did it. Whether we were doing squats, lunges, side shuffles, glute bridges, or tricep dips every exercise left me shaking and counting down the seconds. By the time our final set came, which included lots and lots of ab exercises and burpees, I was sweating bullets and giving Zoe the side eye, just hoping for the clock to tick a bit faster. (By the way, since a few people asked, I’m wearing the Nike Epic Lux tights bought last year.)

Want to join for their next rooftop workout? Nike posts their weekly workout calendar each Sunday at 3pm. Be warned, all of the Nike workouts fill very quickly due to high demand and limited space! Classpass members can also find Nike NTC on the list of studio options when searching through studio options.

Scenes from Saturday

Good morning gang!

I’m off to yoga with my girlfriends this morning, a habit we started a few months ago and have stuck to every weekend we’re in town. My legs are in need of some stretches after the 8 miles we walked yesterday during our perfect Saturday.

We started the day off with an hour walk through Gowanus, Park Slope and Prospect Park. As our weekend guest, Matt, has never been to Brooklyn before, one of the weekend goals is to familiarize him with a few of our favorite places in Brooklyn.

We took in the Fall splendor in Prospect Park, enjoyed a delicious, Southern brunch at Tipsy Parsons, meandered our way through Chelsea, West Village and SoHo, learned about the Brooklyn Bridge and Brooklyn Heights’ rich history on a walking tour and finally relaxed with a bottle of red wine, steak dinner and Page One, a documentary about the New York Times.

Monday Musings

nyc approach

Good morning and Happy Monday!

The skyline-filled view from the plane this morning and the traffic on the Brooklyn Queens Expressway reminded me very quickly that I’m no longer in Savannah. It was a slow, relaxed weekend outside of Saturday and therefore coming out of it almost feels like I have a bit of a hangover from too much wine, relaxation and fun with family.

While I catch up on work and kick off my Monday, here are a few Monday musings.

Going home to Savannah is very easy now that we are just a quick, 2 hour flight home. Our parents can expect far more visits this year as we try to soak up as much time with them as well as the marsh views and water after missing it for so long. In fact, we already have four trips planned between now and May.

In response to Savannah’s horrible, rainy weather yesterday, we headed to the movie theater. We saw Burnt yesterday afternoon and loved it. There were raw, emotional moments but by the end  the four of us left saying WOW what a great movie. Also, Bradley Cooper can cook for me anytime he wants. I realize critics didn’t love the movie but we really enjoyed it.

Speaking of movies, there are so many great ones either already in theaters or coming out soon. I have My All American, Love the Coopers, The Martian, The Peanuts Movie and Spectre on my list.  What’s on yours?

I have access to what many consider the best pizza in the United States and NYC,  but man did Papa John’s pepperoni and mushroom taste delicious last night.

I picked this sweater up at JCrew factory after my dad felt how soft it was.  It’s loose without being sloppy and unflattering but cozy enough to wear during last night’s fireside and wine chat. Now that it’s on sale for just $39 I’m tempted to buy another color.

I committed to an average of three classes per week during Brooklyn Bar Method’s November challenge. Due to life and half marathon taper, I’ll have to do four classes this week and next week to reach the three class average. Any locals want to join me for a class?

Come back tomorrow for my Savannah Rock’n’Roll Half Marathon recap will go up tomorrow!
