I started the blog in April 2009 to document my training for the 2010 ING NYC Marathon, my first. Since then, the blog has evolved into a place where I share my attempt to find balance. Each day, I do my best to inspire my readers as I balance corporate life with the roles of wife, friend, workout partner, and blogger.

Ashley ChamonixMy Past

I’m originally from Savannah, Georgia a wonderful, historic southern town which will always be near and dear to my heart. My childhood instilled in me a love of learning, travel, the outdoors and the belief that family and friends are the most important things in life. After four great years at the University of Georgia including a summer studying abroad in Cadiz, Spain, I graduated in 2006 with a degree in marketing and a minor in spanish.

Following college, I began my dream job with the company for which I still work: Procter & Gamble. My career, along with that of my husband has taken us to Philadelphia, New York, and now Geneva, Switzerland.

Through the support of Weight Watchers and my friends and family I went from weighing 198 pounds to 140 in one year. My love of running has continued since then and I successfully completed the ING NYC Marathon in 2010.

Living Abroad In Europe (2013-2015)

In 2013, my husband and I moved to Europe, initially splitting our time between London, England (where he was working) and Geneva, Switzerland (where I work). In May 2014, my husband relocated to Geneva. We were able to live in the same city, exploring Europe together from May 2014 until June 2015.  In Summer we we’re able to swim and boat in the lake, go for long runs and rides through beautiful countryside and hike through the Alps. In Winter, we were only 45 minutes away from some of the best skiing in the world. We were so fortunate to enjoy this time abroad together, but in June 2015 we decided to move back to New York City.

I have learned a great deal over the past few years as I have transitioned from college to professional life. While I do my best each day to live a life of no regrets, I do wish I had learned some of these values earlier in life, especially moderation and balance. I believe that for life to be truly fulfilling, it must be balanced. While I workout six days a week and do my best to eat healthy, natural foods,  I still enjoy having a few glasses of wine down by the lake while relaxing with friends. Balance extends beyond nutrition and fitness. My career at Procter & Gamble is very important to me, however I believe a happy employee is a productive employee and therefore I strive to embody work life balance. My family and friends are the most important things in my life and, despite living on a different continent, I see them several times a year. My relationship with my husband, Bo, is a blessing. We have been together for 10 years and during this journey we have each grown. One of the biggest things to develop through our relationship is the ability to understand, respect and support each other and our endeavours.

My Blog

With my blog, A Healthy, Happier Bear I hope to to inspire happiness in others by helping them lead healthy, balanced lives. Many people have questioned the theme and title of the blog, i.e. what do bears have to do with being healthy? Its genesis is the fact that “bear” is my husband and my pet name for each other. I am the Heathy, Happier, Bear.

These days, most of my posts revolve around three of my passions in life, travel, fitness, and food. In addition, you’ll also find a few fashion and beauty posts thrown in here as well. Below you’ll find a sample of a few of my favorite posts including a few recipes that are guest-authored by my husband Bo. I hope you enjoy!
