New York’s Best New Yoga Class

Since moving back to New York City, one of my goals is to ensure that I balance out the hustle and bustle with fresh air and relaxation. It’s easy to feel stressed and overwhelmed in a city like New York City, but at the same time, it’s easy to get away from it all.

A new yoga class wants to ensure locals allow themselves time to relax and enjoy savasana under the clouds. SpotYoga has partnered with hotels and clubs to bring yoga to their rooftop spaces during the early morning hours when the regular club goers are fast asleep.

Two weeks ago I was lucky enough to try one of their classes firsthand. The Friday morning yoga class took place on a penthouse terrace at Ink48, a Kimpton Hotel in Hell’s Kitchen.  The 60-minute Tuesday morning class left me energized and ready to take on the day while also being far more relaxed than I normally find myself. Savasana under blue sky and clouds left me feeling more relaxed and renewed than the typical dark room. I kept forgetting that I was in the middle of Manhattan, just 17 stories above the hustle and bustle of the morning commute.

Each of SpotYoga’s 60 minute Vinyasa classes includes mat, props, towels and fresh Liquiteria juice for participants. Many of the hotel and lounge locations will offer extra benefits such as breakfast or discounts for future hotel spa or rooftop use. The classes are currently priced at $34 per class, which makes it about $10 more than the average boutique yoga class in NYC. But, the founders stress that it’s important to think about what this includes, as with SpotYoga there are no hidden costs such as fees for mats, towels or water.  The only other thing I wish they offered was iced coffee post class, but that’d just be too perfect!

There are six classes scheduled during July, each beginning at 7 am and taking place on a spectacular rooftop. Their list of partner hotel and clubs includes City View at the Wyndham, Halo Penthouse, Studio 450, The DL Rooftop, The Veranda at the Eventi, and STK Rooftop!

During their launch, you can use the code WELCOMETOSUMMER to get $10 off any class!  Head over to their site or Classpass to book your first New York City rooftop yoga class!

SpotYoga: Cost: $34 which includes props, towels, mat and juice – Address: All around town at various rooftop locations. – What to wear: Wear your favorite yoga attire though make sure to dress for the weather. If it’s a warmer morning, shorts are probably better than leggings.  Would I pay for it myself? Yes, I think this could be a great monthly activity with friends before work!

Thank you to SpotYoga for the complimentary class and the wonderful pictures.

Friday Favorites July Edition #2

Happy Friday! Who is ready for the weekend? Bo and I are looking forward to a relaxing weekend. We are doing date night tonight, seeing Inside Out before enjoying a quiet dinner together. Tomorrow will be a nice little Saturday with some furniture shopping, mattress shopping, workout and finally a double date.

Whatever you do this weekend, I hope you make time for some rest and relaxation as well as at least one sweat session! It always feels great to get those endorphins going, even on the weekend!

I’m heading out the door for a doctor’s appointment, as I’m still not feeling 100% yet. My general referred me to a gastrointestinal specialist so hopefully he can figure out what is causing the issues. But, similar to last week, it’s far more fun to talk about my favorite things than dwell on illness.

Enjoy this week’s edition of Friday Favorites, including recipes, articles, posts and other things that caught my eye this week.

The thing make me happiest this week is the fact that yesterday at 2pm Bo and I signed the lease to our new apartment! While we don’t move in until August 15th, the furniture and grill shopping can officially begin! We’ll be living in Brooklyn, right on the border of Carroll Gardens and Boerum Hill.  Since we have the lower two levels of the brownstone, we also have the backyard which means there will be LOTS of grilling in our future!

I had to buy a few new beauty and hair products this week since my arsenal of beauty products were packed in our sea shipment. I can’t believe how much my hair likes the new Herbal Essence collection.  In the picture above, I used the Illuminating shampoo, rejuvenating conditioner, and elixir before letting my hair air dry.  While yes, I’m a P&G employee, I haven’t used this brand in ages and was pleasantly surprised considering the price!

I’m excited to be back in America for a presidential election year. While I know it’s going to be complete craziness, I want to understand what each candidate, even the crazy ones, stand for and believe in before the primary season begins. This simple quiz, helps you better understand their issues by showing you who you naturally side with.

I used to love the Eat This Not That in Women’s Health magazine, so naturally when I saw this Harper’s Bazaar article posted by Kristine, I had to see what the fast food options the nutritionists picked.  It’s crazy that some restaurants “healthier” versions are actually worse for you than the original, like McDonald’s Egg White Delight!

One of our goals, now that we’re back in NYC, is to take advantage of the wonderful museums. Next Sunday we’re heading to the Museum of the Moving Image to see their Jim Henson exhibit and movie as well as check out the other permanent and temporary exhibits.

Anyone who knows me, or follows me on social media, knows I love adding a statement necklace to give an otherwise boring shift dress or tank top a pop of color. I’ve been wearing this cluster necklace one non-stop since buying it a few months ago.

I headed downtown last night for a facial at HeyDay, a great new facial-only spa that opened in Flatiron. Their concept is that facials should be a regular part of your routine, just like getting a haircut or workouts. They have 30 and 50 minute treatments, each far less expensive than most NYC facials and over half the price of what facials cost in Geneva! If you’re local, I can’t recommend them enough. The 50 minute facial felt like a mini vacation due to their adorable decor, friendly staff and relaxing atmosphere!

Last but not least, if you want to squeeze in a workout while traveling but don’t want to worry about finding a gym, check out Sarah Fit’s latest bootcamp style outdoor workout. It doesn’t require any equipment other than a timer, which most of us have on our phone!

Your turn – What are you loving this week?

July Workout Playlist

It’s the beginning of a new month which means fresh goals! Just in time for the many runs and workouts to help me achieve my goals is a new playlist. Whether I’m running in Central Park or lifting weights at the gym, music helps motivate me through every minute of a workout. Remember last month, when I ran the Nike London Women’s 10k? I mentioned more than once that Taylor Swift helped me power through the final mile towards a new PR!
