Bo’s 30th Birthday Weekend

I am sun kissed but alive! Things have been quiet on the blog the past few days because we’ve been enjoying a wonderful, long weekend with our friends and family! In honor of Bo’s 30th birthday, we hosted 12 of our friends in Savannah for some Low Country relaxation. Our days were spent either out on the water or relaxing at the pool and each night was filled with Southern food and laughter. The weekend was absolutely perfect and the memories will remain with us for far longer than the sunburn lasts.

Words can’t begin to express how thankful we were to enjoy this time with everyone and share our hometown with them. I can’t wait to share our weekend with you all in more detail but for now, I only have time to share pictures before sitting down to lunch with my mom.

Greetings from Savannah

The first few days of our vacation were pretty perfect. We quickly found ourselves in a vacation routine which included sleeping until our internal alarm clocks woke us up, going out for a run, enjoying fresh peaches and blueberries with breakfast, lazily reading on the back porch, enjoying a beach walk, and finally eating dinner together.

As soon as I felt the humidity Monday morning, I decided to adjust this week’s training plan. I love running outside each morning but have been sticking to 3 and 4 mile runs most mornings. Since I’m cutting the distance down versus my normal 5-6 mile runs I am focusing on speed.

My mom and I are both reading Me Before You. I loved the book so much that I read it in two days. I’ve already downloaded her other books on my iPad and look forward to starting The Girl You Left Behind next!

003 004Our lunch each day has been super fresh, taking advantage of the local Georgia produce. Each day we’ve made homemade healthy shrimp salad with relish, mustard, seasonings, fresh shrimp, Fage yogurt and a dollop of hummus. On this side we’ve enjoyed a simple Vidalia onion and tomato salad with Triscuits or Kashi crackers!

Long walks on Tybee Beach with my mom are one of my favorite activities when I’m home as it gives us the perfect chance to catch up while also getting some sunshine and exercise. Yesterday it was already 99 degrees while we were walking so we cut the walk short to 3 miles but it was still better than nothing! Like I said in my post the other day, there is nothing I prefer than being near the water with friends and family!

024 027 031Last but not least, our nightly dinners have ranged from grilling on the back porch to trying new, local restaurants. 039 My brother and his girlfriend treated us to dinner at Tortugas, a new to us restaurant in Thunderbolt which brings together Southern style food with a Caribbean influence. While they do not have any beers on tap, their bottled beer menu is impressive, to say the least. Everything we ordered was delicious but the fried shrimp, fried green tomatoes, Kona beer in a koozie, and local grouper special were the highlights.

20 Things You May Not Know About Me

I’m trying to disconnect this week while I’m home with my family so you’ll be hearing less from my on Twitter and Facebook, but I have lots of blog post ideas for each early morning while my parents are asleep. We had torrential rain yesterday which meant most of our day was spent reading and relaxing on my parents’ screened in porch. 231238During our flight this weekend I had a chance to catch up on blog reading. One of my favorite posts I read was Tina’s fun 25 Things You (Probably) Don’t Know About Me. Even though we’ve been friends in real life for quite a few years now, it was fun to learn a few new random facts! It inspired me to do a similar post for you guys, featuring 20 things you may not know about me!

1. I’m an emotional and very sensitive person.

2. I do not like any melons- watermelon, honeydew, & cantaloupe.

3. I have the nose of a bloodhound. In fact, maybe that is what I was in a past life.

4. I sprawl out across the entire bed, whether it’s a twin size bed or king size bed. God bless Bo, who has to deal with this habit on a nightly basis.

5. I am exceedingly flexible due to years of dance at an early age.

6. I’ve been to every US state except Alaska.

7. I once slept in a sleeping bag and tent for 56 straight nights.

8. I am scared of heights when it comes to diving boards, roller coasters, etc. In fact, I have never made it off of a diving board higher than 1 meter.

9. I have very neat handwriting and still prefer the written word to the typed word.

10. My favorite Disney movie is Beauty and the Beast.

11. My first car was a stick shift 1986 Honda Accord. Unfortunately, I failed to yield on a left hand turn within days of getting my driver’s license and wrecked that car.

12. Until October of senior year in high school, I wanted to to be a pediatrician.

13. My first-official job was writing for Savannah Morning News.

14. I have no musical ability, in fact, I am tone deaf.

15. My first kiss was when I was 16 years old, and I am still, to this day, friends with a guy on Facebook.

16. I studied abroad in Cadiz, Spain the Summer of 2004.

17. I have watched Grey’s Anatomy since the first season, when my sorority sisters and I would watch it from our living room couch together each week.

18. Even though I know it is horrible for me, I still drink 3-4 Coke Zero or Diet Cokes each week around 3pm. If that’s my worst vice, I think I’m doing pretty well in life.

19. If I could take a few foods with me on an island it would be Bo’s Guacamole with Xochitl tortilla chips, bananas, my mom’s salted chocolate chip cookies, Diet Coke, and Whole Foods salted Almond Butter. Clearly I wouldn’t live that long.

20. My “happy place” is being on or near the water with friends or family.

What is a random fact that most of your friends don’t know?
