Lately, anytime I post a picture on Facebook or Instagram the comments revolve around my hair.
The comments and emails that follow a post with my picture often request tips for growing hair long and favorite products. Until these comments, I hadn’t thought much about my hair or its evolution over the past few years.I’m not sure why I never realized this. Maybe it is because I’m guilty of wearing my hair in a bun or ponytail too often. But, looking back at pictures from the past few years and talking to my mom, I realize that this is my hair at it’s absolute longest – ever! Until this year my hair stayed right below my shoulders as this is the way every single stylist wants to cut my hair.
So, how did I grow my hair out and keep it healthy? I don’t really have any tips other than just say no when it comes to over eager stylists who want to chop your locks and get trims at least every 8 weeks. Here are my favorite beauty products that I have used during this process. Keep in mind, I am blessed with very thick hair naturally and have also never dyed or chemically treated my hair. By default this means that my hair is very strong and therefore doesn’t tend to break. Some of these products may seem expensive but in my opinion, healthy hair is worth it! Also, I am not in any way pregnant but these VitaFusion prenatal vitamins are more effective than any other vitamin and who can resist the gummy flavor and texture?
Conair Shower Comb – Fekkai Defense Pre-Style Thermal/UV Protectant – VitaFusion PreNatal Gummy Vitamins - Phyto Hair and Nails Supplement – Sebastian Trilliance Shampoo – Fekkai Silky Straight Ironless Conditioner – Neutrogena Triple Moisture Deep Recovery Mask
What is your favorite hair tip or product?
unfortunately with the hormone issues mine got super dry. I’ve been trying to baby it and hopefully it’s gets back to how healthy it used to be so I can have my long hair again!!
I also have fairly healthy hair, so I try not style it everyday. I currently use Aveda shampoo and conditioner.
I think the best piece of advice you could have given was to keep trimming the split ends off the ends of your hair. And if you’re not doing that already, you probably should be.
My favorite deep conditioning mask is from Kerastase. I put it in once a month and it re-hydrates and re-energizes my hair. Also, since you straighten your hair, you should put a heat protector on your dry hair. I like TIGI S Factor Flat Iron Shine Spray for that.
You in the striped top might be my favorite picture of you, SO beautiful, Ash!
I’ve been noticing your hair for so long — it’s ridiculously beautiful and so healthy looking. Thanks for the tips!
I also don’t color my hair/use chemicals on it which I think makes it so much healthier! I also try to only wash my hair 3-4 days a week and I very rarely (maybe once a month) heat style my hair. I shower at night and go to bed w/ wet hair and wake up with it dry. I am lucky enough to have nice curls/waves going on when I wake up 🙂 If I want it straight, that’s when I break out the blow dryer/straightener.
I was actually thinking of getting those prenatal vitamins too! I hear they’re great for your skin and nails!
Great tip I never thought of prenatal vitamins but totally make sense.
Over the past year I have been investing in my hair products and I can tell the difference on how my hair growing but also how it looks even air dry. It makes paying the $40 shampoo worthwhile. I also use some Lush R&B which is amazing for a nice pick me up or everyday use.
I also use Oro Fluido – Argan Oil which just a tiny bit I can see/feel the difference. Lately I tried agave based hair products which surprisingly did a good job however not enough for me to let go of Oribe shampoo.
Are you still taking biotin too?
I try to wash my hair less often to avoid over-styling. I need to get some prenatals!
