Believe it or not, I actually love running during the frigid New York City winters! If you’re properly prepared it can be a beautiful way to appreciate your city, whether it’s decked out in winter white or just cooler and crisper.
Tonight, during our weekly work run club, we discussed the importance of preparation for winter running. While I find that I have more PR’s during the winter months than summer months, running in cold weather without taking the proper steps can be plain miserable! Before you head out on your next winter run, check out the below for 5 tips to make your next run more enjoyable!
In addition, if you’re looking for some new winter running gear, check out my post on winter running essentials!
Do you prefer winter or summer running?
Running in the winter is the best! There is something about walking out of the house in the early morning when it’s cold and crisp that is so refreshing! Good tips too!
Julie I totally agree! I absolutely love the cold air. Glad you like the tips!
WHERE IS THIS CHEVRON FROM? I NEED TO KNOW.
Pic Monkey!
Love the format of this post! Totally agree with needing a hat and gloves, I really missed them on my frosty run this morning. A headband did not provide enough cover!
Thanks Charlie! I find that headband is good for over 35 degrees but once it drops below freezing I prefer a hat!
I’m with you girl . . . Winter running is my fave. Everyone thinks I’m crazy, but there’s something awesome about that cold air in your lungs, crisp, fresh mornings and that warm on the inside, cold on the outside pure running bliss. I love it.
DEFINITELY Summer, and I’m from Texas! I love how in the Summer I feel like I got in an awesome workout after only 3 miles because I am dripping in sweat. Plus I absolutely despise being cold when I start my run. I am such a baby about the cold weather in general and feeling any sort of discomfort due to cold. I will even wear a fleece inside the gym at the start of my workout if it’s cold outside. Like I said, bay-bee.
