Get Your Good Going Almond Breeze and Lululemon Giveaway

This week has been one of my toughest weeks in a long time. I’m feeling a bit drained after a long work week, my body is feeling it physically as it fights off a cold, my travel season is just ramping up, and there are some other stressors that have me feeling a bit overwhelmed.

It’s during weeks like this that a few positive words of encouragement from friends and family are more than welcome.  Whether it’s a quick text, an email, a hug, or a phone call- a bit of motivation and a reminder that I have a support system is all it takes to turn around a rough week. Luckily, the folks at Almond Breeze think that once the good get’s going, it can’t be stopped!

They have a new campaign which has launched on Facebook, “Get Your Good Going” which allows people to spread the good by saying something nice to a Facebook friend. While doing so they can also enter to win a YEAR’S SUPPLY OF ALMOND BREEZE and a $1,000 gift card to spruce up their kitchen! How cool is that? It reminds me of the movie, Pay It Forward.

As you all know, I buy my Almond Breeze in bulk from Costco since I use it so often! While my favorite way to use Unsweetened Almond Breeze is in my smoothies, it blends perfectly in my morning coffee as well!

After spending over an hour on the phone with my mom the past two days, there was no question in my mind who I owed a thank you after seeing this campaign.

Even though she still lives down in Savannah, Georgia my mom is my best friend. I can call her and talk to her about anything and she is patient and willing to help. Our relationship has definitely evolved over the past few years as I’ve established my life in New York City with Bo but at the end of the day she is my rock. When we’re together, it’s like nothing has changed and when we’re apart I still miss her daily. We read the same books at times just so we can have our own mini book club, we motivate each other to try new things and be better people, and she’s even gone zip lining and started doing yoga this year thanks to my influence! Lord knows, my husband wishes I had half the patience she has!

In order to thank her, Almond Breeze is sending her a prize pack including a $25 Lululemon gift card and 3 Almond Breeze coupons.

But, the fun doesn’t stop with her! I want to let one of you enjoy a prize pack and share one with the person you want to thank.  You can enter two different ways and I’ll choose a winner Sunday, August 12th at 9pm!

Physique 57 NYC

Since moving to New York City over three years ago, I’ve made my rounds to the different bar method studios in the city. Each time a new one opens I feel the need to give it a try, especially as more and more open near Gramercy.

Physique 57 Review

While I may try numerous different places, every single time my heart eventually leads me back to Physique 57, the very first bar class I tried back in April of 2009, when Bo was living down in the Financial District. I used to walk the mile to the Spring Street location and enjoy evening classes during my May unlimited package. During that month I took more than 15 classes and loved each and every one for the same reason: the level of instruction and attention to detail. All pictures courtesy of Well+Good.

Friday evening Well+Good NYC and Physique 57 hosted a group of bloggers for a class with the co-founder, Tanya Becker. This was such a treat as we had the opportunity to enjoy an intense workout while laughing and getting to know each other since many people were visiting the city for BlogHer. I loved sharing the class with them, especially those who questioned the light weights in the very beginning. This is definitely a high repetition class incorporating resistance training and deep stretching while working the entire body with small movements.

Even though it had been a year since I walked through the doors of Physique, as soon as I saw the familiar bar,  blue carpet, and playground balls I knew it would be a wonderful workout. While this was one of the most intense classes I’ve taken, I never once worried about injury or not “feeling a movement” as both Tanya and her assistant were circulating the class constantly, adjusting form and providing very detailed instructions.

I dare you to try one of their classes and leave without working each of your muscle groups or feeling your legs quiver. Due to the class diversity and instructors’ watchful eye this just isn’t possible. There are times when I wish I lived or worked closer to one of their New York City locations as I truly love every class I take and feel that after only one class I can feel myself standing taller and engaging my core muscles. I do not question whether I would see results equal to my personal training sessions. But, much to my wallets elation and my marathon training legs, taking regular classes just isn’t possible right now.

But, if you’re ever looking for someone to accompany you to a Physique 57 workout, just shoot me an email and I’ll be there! If you don’t think taking a class in NYC is in the cards, I can’t recommend their DVD’s enough! My favorite DVD is the Physique Arm & Ab Booster since it is only 30 minutes in length but includes 14 minutes of arm workouts that engage each and every muscle and leave my arms screaming by the end. NYCM Training Week 5: Savor the City

Wow, 89 days from now I’ll be heading to bed in preparation for the New York City marathon! While 89 days sounds short when I say it, at least in my head I know that it’s over 12 weeks away!

Last week’s 26 miles weren’t necessarily done in normal fashion but I finished the week feeling stronger than I have in a while! Reflecting on the workout schedule I posted last Monday night leaves me smiling:

Monday: 5 miles in Central Park+Pure Barre blogger class

Tuesday: cross training

Wednesday: 5 4 miles

Thursday: yoga/stretching +2 miles

Friday: 14 mile long run 12.5 mile run +Physique 57 blogger class

Saturday: 4 miles

Sunday: 2 miles

While I didn’t get the miles in the exact order, I woke up super early Friday morning to get a quality long run in even though the morning’s humidity left me soaking wet within a few miles. I was out late both Friday and Saturday night and was therefore thankful that I front loaded my week’s miles.

Looking forward to this week, my goal is to savor my last full week of training in the city for six weeks. Running in New York City can be an amazing energizing experience if you plan things correctly. Tonight, thanks to my office running club, we enjoyed one of my favorite runs in the city: Queensborough Bridge. The 5 mile run wasn’t always easy due to the incline but sharing this experience with two runners who had never experienced it was magical! I was able to share my bridge defeat with them that I experience during last year’s marathon and find inspiration in their excitement. In addition, they are such supporters that we’ve decided to run the bridge more often to help prepare me for the marathon.

This week’s long run will allow me to finally enjoy the NYC Summer Streets program as I conquer Park Avenue with other NYC runners. The route, which runs from 72nd street down to the Brooklyn Bridge will be a perfect way to log miles without the normal traffic interference!

This week’s schedule will take me to 29 miles, just short of the 30 mile hurdle which I’ll conquer next week. In addition to enjoying my first personal training session with Lauren who is back from maternity leave, I want to squeeze in at least one yoga session to keep things balanced and loose.

Monday: 5 miles (Queensborough Bridge)

Tuesday: personal training+foam rolling

Wednesday: yoga+weights

Thursday: 6 miles

Friday: 4 miles

Saturday: 14 miles

Sunday: Rest

If I’m lucky, I’ll also enjoy a massage sometime this week. I can’t decide whether to schedule it before my long run, midweek, or as a long run reward.

Question: What is your favorite way to reward yourself after a great week of workouts?
