Five Favorites for Air Travel

During August and September I’ll travel 6 of the 8 weeks, many of which will be via plane. All this travel has taught me a great deal over the past year. Today I want to share my five favorite items to make any flight just a little bit smoother. Regardless of whether you travel once a year or once a week, hopefully you’ll enjoy these items. In addition to these items, I highly recommend you check out 3 Fl Oz if you’re a beauty junkie who wants to find your favorite products in airport security approved sizes!

Travel Favorites

1.The Lululemon Scuba Hoodie has been a travel companion of mine for the past two years, keeping me warm on many a cold flight.  I love the cozy factor while still looking partially put together due to it’s sleek lines. The deep pockets are perfect for holding lip gloss and your ticket while you’re running through the airport.

2. Ole Henriksen Ultimate Lift Eye Gel is the perfect thing to use as soon as you sit down on the flight in order to ensure you land looking rested, even if you couldn’t get a minute’s sleep on your six hour cross country flight. It reduces puffiness that is common post flight and the cool formula leaves your skin and gentle eye area feeling refreshed.

3. Emergen-C Spending time in airports and airplanes is the perfect way to pick up the latest cold or flu strain. In addition to staying active during travel I mix one packet with water daily and enjoy each morning to give my body an extra burst of Vitamin C. I think of it as my immune system’s punching Gatorade during the fight against germs!

4. I love the new, sleek design of my Kindle, a present to myself earlier this year. It fits easily in my carry-on and allows me to enjoy hours of reading without the weight of books or the clunk of the older versions. The battery on the new one seems to last for hours, which makes traveling without a power cord an easy space saving decision.

5. The Eddy Camelbak water bottle is a great way to save money while also making it easy to stay hydrated during travel. At .75 liters, this no-leak bottle can fit easily into your seat pocket, making it less necessary to use that annoying stewardess call button during a flight. I fill mine up in the airport in between flights and then ask the flight attendant to fill it up during flight instead of the small cup they’d normally provide. An added bonus is that you won’t risk spilling all over your seatmates or computer during turbulence!

Enjoy, because traveling is easier and more enjoyable when you have the right gear!

I have to fly to Washington State to visit my family fairly frequently, and in addition to what you mentioned (I also adore my Kindle!), I like to have an eye mask to block light so I can sleep and my boyfriend’s iPad packed with movies.

Yes, an iPad is a great addition as well Jen! Great call!

By the way, I’ve been lusting after the Scuba Hoodie but wasn’t sure it was quite worth the price tag… as a professional and runner, do you find plenty of situations to wear it in? Thanks 🙂

        • ashleyd August 22, 2012 / 12:46 pm

Yes! I love it! In the Fall and Spring I wear it to the gym in the morning, in the winter I wear it to stay cozy at home and in the summer I use it for travel. Its a great race reward gift or wish list item! I did find my color on sale FYI.

I totally agree on the Lululemon jacket! I wear crops and a jacket from them every time I travel and it looks good and is really comfortable!

    • ashleyd August 22, 2012 / 12:25 pm

Thanks Jillian! Thanks for being a daily reader as well. I love it! I do wish I had this jacket in black as that’d snaz it up a bit.

Thanks Juliette! Yes this eye gel is amazing,e specially if you keep it in the fridge!

I second the neck pillow. Best $17 I ever spent. I used to think they were lame and bulky but I LOVE mine.

I always hit up Sephora before I travel to score some free samples (TSA-friendly!) of my fave products. I got 3 samples of my favorite Philosophy moisturizer before I left for Italy and they lasted the whole trip.

Love the list, I’ll have to try that eye cream!

love this post! this will be helpful for my next trip!

Sanitizing wipes! I learned from our last vacation that carrying hand sanitizer isn’t enough. I came home with a viscous cold and, after researching online, found out most germs are on the tray tables and heat rests of planes. I’ll never travel without them again!

Eye mask for getting some shut-eye — and some kind of snack in case you don’t have time to buy one or get stuck on a plane for a few extra hours. And of course a fully loaded iPod to drown out the world.

  7. Helen August 22, 2012 / 12:25 pm

    Ditto Erica – handwipes ftw!

  8. Heidi @BananaBuzzbomb August 22, 2012 / 12:29 pm

Looks like your faves are similar to mine. I always carry a hoodie, my nook, and water, for sure. Oftentimes I also stuff a small blanket in my carry on just in case too!

    • ashleyd August 22, 2012 / 12:46 pm

The blanket is a great idea as not all flights have them anymore!

  9. Katie August 22, 2012 / 12:49 pm

Do you have any healthy snack recommendations? I need something to munch to pass the time!

  10. Chelsea @ Dine & Dash Diaries August 22, 2012 / 1:28 pm

Great list! I’m flying tomorrow, so this is perfect timing. I also bring a pair of noise-cancelling headphones on any trip—loud snoring neighbors, crying babies, angry customers, be gone!

  11. Megan August 22, 2012 / 2:13 pm

Instead of spending money on travel sized products, get some Nalgene travel bottles at the Container Store. Saves money.

  12. Gretchen @ Honey, I Shrunk the Gretchen! August 22, 2012 / 2:20 pm

The battery on the Kindle doesn’t just last for hours, it lasts up to a month or more! I can’t even remember my life B.K. (before Kindle). 😉

  13. Laura August 22, 2012 / 4:02 pm

I’m still very confused by Kindles, since I’ve always seen the FA make you turn them off for takeoff and landing. Are there versions that you’re allowed to read at that time? Otherwise, I much prefer a book.

My travel must-have: a butterfly laptop bag. If I’m bringing any liquids, I keep them in between the two halves of the butterfly, so I unzip one thing and my bag is all set for security without rummaging around.

  14. Elizabeth August 22, 2012 / 5:14 pm

I’m late to the Kindle game… I still can’t resist a good, old fashioned book, as clunky as they can be. I’d be lost without refillable travel bottles for beauty products– ensures I pack an FFA approved size, without having to pick from the random selection of travel beauty products at Target. 🙂

  15. Sara August 22, 2012 / 5:41 pm

Ah! I also scored a Scuba (or the one like it that has a big collar instead of a hood) on sale, and I wear it to the gym in the cold months, but I never though of it for travel! Perhaps next time that’ll make just the right add. I hate feeling frumpy while traveling. I usually go with big scarves/pashminas and jeggings.

Nice to meet you last weekend, by the way!

    • ashleyd August 26, 2012 / 1:30 pm

I agree that feeling frumpy when reveling is the worst! You never know who you’ll see!

  16. Amanda @RunToTheFinish August 22, 2012 / 7:09 pm

i know everyone loves emergen c but I just can’t do it, tastes nasty to me. I need to check out this eye cream!

    • Martha August 27, 2012 / 5:36 pm

Amanda – you should try Nuun All Day, it has vitamins (like Emergen C) but it tastes better! It’s not overpowering either. I love it!

  17. Kierston August 23, 2012 / 2:03 am

So with you on the scuba hoodie! soooo comfy!

I always bring with me some protein to snack on….and a gossip magazine 🙂
