#Maketherules

Sometimes I tend to find that I’m a bit of a weekend warrior. I work out consistently during the week but come Saturday, when I have no work beckoning me to the office, I love to enjoy more than one solid workout session especially when the weather is nice.

Saturday was no exception to this as I was able to work on my tan lines while breaking a sweat outside with friends for over 2.5 hours!

After Theodora, Laura, Bo and I finished our 6 mile run along the Hudson River I came home and spent a few minutes cooling off with a homemade protein shake. Thanks to GNC and Fitfluential I have enough protein powder to keep me going for what seems like a lifetime!

After slurping this down I dashed back to the Westside Highway to meet Melissa at Pier 46 for Nike’s Celebration of Sports, a special outdoor workout event featuring four strong women who lead attendees through workouts such as yoga, boxing, and Nike+ workouts.

After signing in, attendees received an awesome technical tank featuring the day’s hashtag: #maketherules in honor of Title IX.

2012-06-23_12.02.37While Lacey Stone’s 4:45 workout class was probably the most popular of those offered, I can’t say enough positive things about the class we attended, yoga with Tracie Copeland. Everywhere we turned as we set up our yoga mats we saw inspirational words and mantras which personally got me pumped and excited to stretch out and push my body during the yoga class which would hopefully balance out the morning run. It also amazed me to realize that this would be my 3rd yoga class of the week and my 2nd outdoor class!

It didn’t hurt that Nike provided amazing refreshments such as Vita Coco coconut water and wonderful views for the day’s events either.

A woman of many talents, Traci Copeland led us through a 45 minute yoga session which left me feeling loose and limber after my run. While the class was more challenging overall than I expected, it was nothing I couldn’t handle. The hardest part was dealing with the hot mat during multiple plank poses and downward dog series.  I wish I could find out more about Traci as I’d love to try more of her yoga classes!

Overall I think Nike did a great job with this event. I was surprised there weren’t more people at the yoga session but I hear that the later sessions really filled the house, especially Lacey Stone’s workout. If you want to see more about the other sessions, check out this review of the boxing event from Meg and this video below from Lacey Stone!
