It’s hard to believe that I’m finally back in New York City after 9 days down in Georgia. In case you’re just catching up from a busy week, Bo and I were able to make lemonade out of the lemons we were handed with my Papa’s passing. While we all know he is in a better place, it was a very tough week down in Savannah. Luckily, we were able to enjoy a relaxing weekend, just the two of us, down in Sea Island.
We were blessed with amazing weather on Saturday and Sunday! The high was 80 each day and there was a strong breeze which kept the gnats away.
We tied our running shoes on Saturday morning for a 6 mile run around the island together. We kept somewhere between a 9:45 and 10:00 minute pace depending on whether we were talking or just focused on the scenery. The homes were beautiful as we ran down the paved jogging path, filled with other visitors and residents.
We ran without phones or music so you just have to imagine that every mile looked something like this; sunshine, blue sky, and tile roofs.
After our run we relaxed by the pool with cool cucumber water and two good books (Bulls Island for me and Hunger Games for him).
Sea Island’s beach club and pool area is one of the largest I’ve ever seen at a resort. There are four separate pool areas, including one adult only pool. This pool area featured wonderful service, comfortable terry cloth towel cover lounge chairs, and a large lap pool.
Yes, I wear my Sparkly Band poolside. I can't handle sweaty wisps of hair while I read!
Life doesn't get much better than this!
Around noon we ordered a few lunch items to enjoy by the pool since our hunger was ravenous after our morning run. We were blown away by the food which was stellar! The grilled mahi sandwich was fresh and seasoned perfectly, the creative Georgia sushi roll featured bits of peach along with tuna and pickled vegetables, while the shrimp salad was just as the South intends, made fresh with Duke’s Mayonnaise!
At 2pm our time by the pool came to an end as we changed our focus to golf. Part of our package included 18 holes of golf for two along with a cart rental. What a fun way to spend the late afternoon! The course, Seaside , was challenging due to it’s layout and fast greens but the scenery was amazing. Not to mention that Bo was wonderfully patient with me and coached me through the round. Since we had other groups behind and ahead of us we played what we termed “boagey golf.” Since Bo is a strong enough golfer to rarely do any worse than a boagey on a hole, I’d pick up my ball once I reached boagey as well. We may or may not have enjoyed some “swing lube” along the course including our favorite, Sweet Water 420!
Those pink and white golf shoes were on super sale for $19!
There really is no other way I’d rather enjoy vacation than outside soaking up sunshine. Leaving Savannah on Friday, we both were stressed and exhausted. It’s amazing what 24 hours of time together laughing and playing outside can do for the soul.
Question: Did you watch The Masters this weekend? If so, who were you hoping would wear the green jacket? The winner, Bubba, graduated from UGA in 2008!
