A Flashback Playlist

Tonight was not your average evening.

Instead of leaving work around 7:30, I was able to walk out guilt free at 6pm, just in time for yoga.  I’ve taken this yoga class a few times before and absolutely love the instructor, Samantha Debicki. She is young, friendly, and like a ray of sunshine after a long stressful day.

Samantha Debicki

Her class is described on the Equinox site as a more athletic class and I’d agree.

A vigorous, more athletic approach to yoga techniques characterized by flowing poses and sequences that are linked to the breath. Classes are diverse and sequencing will vary with instructor philosophy.

Tonight’s class included wall stands, crow poses, and multiple boat pose sequences.

After that class, I moved studios for a second class, Stretch and Restore for Athletes.

Using a foam roller and expert guidance, stretch and move to address imbalances, remove knots, increase blood flow, and release toxins in the muscles. The sweet dose of self-massage and myofascial release will align your spine and leave you feeling connected, relaxed, lighter and a better athlete.

This quick class was amazing as it combined some traditional foam roller moves with more complicated moves that I’ve never tried and some wonderful back work. If you live in NYC and ever have the opportunity to try this class you’ll love it! Next time I’ll try to take my iPhone so I can captures some of the moves.

By 7:15 I left Equinox happy, relaxed, and energized. I forgot how much I love evening yoga sessions.

In very unusual fashion, I came home and didn’t give into Seamless Web. Instead, I took out the cutting board, our leftover Eataly produce, and some sipped a glass of wine while cooking dinner.

Tonight’s dinner included a mixed green salad dressed with crumbled blue cheese and a drizzle of balsamic and olive oil. The main attraction included whole wheat rotini, sautéed squash, leftover chicken, and jarred sauce. Topped with a dash of garlic gold and parmesan this was delicious and filling!

I enjoyed dinner at my new blogging work station Bo set up for me this weekend.

I really want to decorate the walls now that this is going to me blogging location and my home office.

While enjoying dinner, I put together a new running playlist which includes some blasts from my middle school and high school days.

imageNow, I’m going to enjoy some time curled up in bed with the book that never ends, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

A Sweaty Dinner Date at Birreria

Good morning everyone! I hope you have a wonderful Tuesday! My morning started at 6 with a personal training session. This morning’s session was probably 60% arms, 20% legs, 20% abs which means that right now I can barely lift my iced coffee to my lips.  Ouch!

IMG_3187 (480x640) Theodora and I are going to try and stretch out our muscles tonight at yoga so hopefully that will help my muscles. Or, by the last downward dog I may just want to crawl out of the yoga studio. We’ll see.

This morning’s commute was another steamer. The New York City subway system is a wonderful gift to have approximately 300 days per year. You don’t have to worry about snow blocking the roads, ice storms, or traffic. But, for two months each year you get to deal with every other person’s body odor, sweat, and stickiness. Trust me, it’s not pretty.

IMG_3189 (640x478) After such a hot commute, I was ready for a cool breakfast. An iced coffee along side banana cinnamon oats. After making the oats I stuck them in the fridge for 15 minutes to cool. It was a refreshing change!

IMG_3188 (478x640)I’m sure by now you all are wondering about today’s title. Outdoor dining in New York is lovely except when the city is a sauna.

Last night I met Gabriella, Theodora, and Tina at Birreria for a delicious dinner date. Located 14 floors above Madison Square Park, Birreria is Eataly’s rooftop restaurant and brewery which features fresh cask brews and delicious food. Unfortunately, fans are quite sparse up there which means we were each glistening by the time we left.

IMG_3191 (478x640)Last night’s experience was similar to my first in that the food and service was wonderful. I also had a chance to try a new beer and new salad which just proved to me that Birreria can do more than just sausage and beer well.

IMG_3197 (640x478) The weather held out, allowing us time to catch up on the rooftop deck. The conversation ranged from blog drama to Gabriella’s new culinary adventure.

After a bite of bread dipped in their delicious olive oil, I was excited for my entree.

IMG_3193 (640x478)Three of us went with this salad which was unexpectedly delicious. I ordered the insalata cotta cruda, with bibb lettuce, wax beans, potato, roasted onions, asparagus, tomatoes, olives, capers and red wine vinaigrette.  The mix of capers, roasted onions, and mixed potatoes gave it a unique texture and the portion was just enough to leave me satiated but not stuffed.

IMG_3194 (640x478)I paired this dish with a side of their krauti, or sauerkraut, which was wonderful but too large a portion.

IMG_3196 (640x478) All in all, it was a wonderful evening and I definitely think Eataly is on to something.

IMG_3198 (640x478) Life is too short not to eat well…in good company.

Hope you have a wonderful Tuesday!

NYRR Run for Central Park: Negative Splits

My Type of Sunday

Last week, I logged 17 miles of running, one spin class, 30 minutes of yoga, and two personal training sessions. I stuck to my training plan perfectly which is a great start. It seems weird to be proud of running 17 miles in one week when that was the equivalent of one long run just a nine months ago. But, building mileage isn’t easy when you’re so accustomed to shorter runs.

This week’s plan is very similar to last week except the mileage of my Monday and Saturday runs are increased.

Monday: Basic run 5 miles with 4 striders

Tuesday: Personal training in the AM + yoga PM

Wednesday: 3 miles + spin class

Thursday: Personal Training

Friday: Rest Day

Saturday: NYCM Long Training Run #1 at least 9 miles (I’m going to see how I feel at 9 and possibly push myself to do 10 or 11. My goal is to maintain around a 10 minute per mile pace.)

Sunday: 3 mile recovery run

I’m excited to finally hit the 20 mile mark next week!

Hope you have a great week and are able to stick with your own personal workout or training goals.
